Global Warming Quotes For Quick Reference
These gems should not be left lying idle. Use them well!
You hear and see global warming quotes everywhere. From scientists, novelists and politicians we get the most crafted barbs, the spurs to action, the eye-openers about global warming. The quotes on these pages are a little more unusual than the regular George Bush quotes everybody seems to look for. Do you know of some real good ones? Please let me know here and I may include them. But don't disregard your greengrocer, your child (especially!) - and your neighbour. What do they say in a way that has you take notice? Here is my evolving list of global warming quotesAl GoreThere are many who still do not believe that global warming is a problem at all. And it's no wonder: because they are the targets of a massive and well-organized campaign of disinformation lavishly funded by polluters who are determined to prevent any action to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming out of a fear that their profits might be affected if they had to stop dumping so much pollution into the atmosphere. The scientists are virtually screaming from the rooftops now. The debate is over! There's no longer any debate in the scientific community about this. But the political systems around the world have held this at arm's length because it's an inconvenient truth, because they don't want to accept that it's a moral imperative.
The good news is we know what to do. The good news is, we have everything we need now to respond to the challenge of global warming. We have all the technologies we need, more are being developed, and as they become available and become more affordable when produced in scale, they will make it easier to respond. It does not say "Every man for Himself." p.117. Between Hope and History. 1996. Random House. CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation - Australia)The world’s fossil fuel economy precludes the elimination of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions over the near-term, and thus future global warming is likely to be well above 1°C. Analysis of future emissions trajectories indicates that, left unchecked, human GHG emissions will increase several fold over the 21st century. As a consequence, Australia’s annual average temperatures are projected to increase 0.4–2.0°C above 1990 levels by the year 2030, and 1– 6°C by 2070. Average precipitation in southwest and southeast Australia is projected to decline further in future decades, while regions such as the northwest may experience increases in precipitation. Meanwhile, Australia’s coastlines will experience erosion and inundation from an estimated 8–88 cm increase in global sea level. Preston & Jones.
