Grant for solar energy South Africa
by Mokalane Ezekiel
(South Africa)
I have for the past five years worked in the Eastern cape and kzn in South Africa doing non grid electrification on schools and clinics now I want to help the locals to use solar system in their houses, since well this communities do not have grid electricity. Can I get the grant to do such a project?
Hi Mokalane, A South African Zulu community Co-op received a grant from the US Dept Energy, and on a contract with the South African Ministry of Energy in Pretoria provided home solar systems there. You might like to talk to them.
Then there is Michael Addinall's BettaLights company bringing solar, LED light-based energy to poor South African homes. His contact details can be found on the bottom of his brochure. I'll tell him you might be contacting him.
No direct solar grants were located for you. But of course you could also contact the Dept of Energy here to see what's possible, or higher level people here.
Good luck. Please come back here to tell us how you go. Regards,
