Renewable Energy For Low Income Housing Portsmouth

Sweat, Tubes, and Joy

We are a local grassroot organization that provides renewable energy projects for residential living.

Want a story?

On a nice summer day in July we just turned on the solar hot water system on an apartment building in a historic district of our beloved town.

Job well done, volunteers!

Tenants will enjoy the perks of heat/hot water included...

What's next? Low income housing!

A couple of local groups are building affordable housing homes. It would be nice if the costs of living in a nice newly refurbished or new house would stay as low as possible. We have net metering and free hot water.

Watching the shimmering sun - we all agreed on the idea that each new/newly refurbished house in a good location for solar energy use should have what we call a "power roof".

What is that?

In short, a roof that brings any heating bill (five months of winter here) to a minimum and makes your electric meter spin backwards...

Quickly we developed a battery of designs with PV panels (up to 2kW)and solar hot water heater (tubes or plate) that can be installed within any residential project.

We have interested groups (Habitat, etc.) who are thrilled and ready to go.

We are ready to go - now we just need to get smart about requesting enough funds for 25 homes that we identified within the group of upcoming low income/first time home buyers housing projects.

All of them have Golden LEED design.

Help us with getting smarter and share - Who is out there with funding these green utilities? Now we can't wait to save tons of CO2 in every one of the homes and start putting $200/month in new owners' pockets.

If we can finish them all by Fall 2011, will offset around 800 tons/year of CO2 and save $60,000/year in utility costs.
