Renewable Energy Grants for Disadvantaged Youth Summer Camp Dining Hall

by Ryan
(Chicago, IL)

Hello all!

I am looking for information on grants (or any funding source) for solar and/or wind power to run our camp dining hall. We serve disadvantaged youth from the inner-city of Chicago and want to use this system to not only power our current system (lights, kitchen equipment, etc), but also to be able to add A/C without the crippling utility cost increase. This would also provide a great opportunity for us to teach our campers about these renewable energy sources. We focus a lot of time on environmental education, and this seems like a great enhancement to our program and the overall camp experience!

Most youth come from Chicago and our camp is in Michigan.

Any ideas?

The US Conference of Mayors has a grant program for green job training for disadvantaged people in Chicago for 2009. Your Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago is very much involved. Make contact with him?

This solar company says it has a donation pot for such purposes.

Any more ideas anyone?
